Here’s a simple warmer to get your students talking. Simply show them the riddle and in groups ask them to discuss what the answer could be. Remember, the idea isn’t for them to be right, it’s to encourage discussion.

You could also use it as a way of practicing talking about possibilities:

“It could be…”
“It might be…”
“Maybe it’s…”
“Do you think they are…?”
“What about…?”

Note: the topic on a couple of the slides is a bit dark, so may not be suitable for use with your group. If that’s what you think, skip those ones.
